The list below is special friends that I do not know the fate of yet.

What would we do if we were trying to survive ?
I saw many with gallons of water, others with
diapers, and still others
with food, but how thoughtless of the teenagers who were stealing
TV's when there was no electricity. their thoughts were for that
very
opportune moment, and not thinking of
the end result as these items
would be of no use to them as they will
be the ones evacuated from
the city as it tries to recover and rebuild. that insight had not hit
home.
I have never known riches or wealth, but I have
been blessed to
always have food, clothing, and my needs met. I asked myself
what I would do if I was in that destruction, and thirsty, hungry,
exhausted and afraid. My answer was that I would do what ever
necessary to survive other than physically harm or hurt another.
I could never condemn the ones who took water, food, or diapers.
Those of us who have never had to resort to
stealing because we
have never had to as our needs were met can not know what we
would do in a different situation, where there was no choice except
steal or go without. We have had many choice's before us so we
could make the right moral decisions. But what if ... there was no
choices. I am honest and will admit I am also a survivor. I would do
whatever was necessary to feed my hungry child and I would get
water even if it meant stealing it. The government should have had
the guardsmen working in the stores that were intact and let
them
give out the water and the owners could have been compensated
later. I am dreaming as reality tells me there was no time to plan.
I can not imagine NO food, No water. The other conditions
made
the situation unbearable already. My heart and prayers are for the
survivors of Katrina. I just hope help arrives for everyone before
it is too late. As in all disastrous situations, the evil and criminal
types make matters worse. I hope all the persons who took
advantage of this heartbreaking situation to rape, needlessly
vandalize, and commit other vicious acts are brought to justice.
There is a difference between surviving and needless criminal
acts. It is the choice aspect again. When we have choice's we
do the moral thing if we are honorable, good human beings.
Stripping cars, smashing car windows, stealing what is not
crucial for survival can not be justified in any circumstance.
Those do not need my compassion. They just made a
disastrous situation even worse for the blameless victims.
My heart goes out to all those innocent victims of Katrina.
